What is real? What is perception? These questions and the answers to them shape our work life, our personal life, and the world around us.
In business, perception is the basis of our brand, the root of our strategic vision, and the foundation of our team’s commitment to achieving it.
In life, how we perceive ourselves and others shapes our decisions, our relationships and our ability to succeed.
Last week I ran into an old friend who has been helping bridge the gap between reality and perception for a number of years as both a trial lawyer and later as an advisor to some of the worlds largest and most successful corporations. We chatted about his newest project, a film that illustrates the importance of answering these questions.
People v. The State of Illusion, is a film by my friend Austin Vickers. We first got to know each other as we served together on the board of directors of Parenting Arizona, an organization dedicated to creating an environment for safer children and stronger families. This new feature length documentary/drama, directed by award winning Director Scott Cervine, is set in the notorious “Old Main Prison” of the New Mexico State Penitentiary, and tells the story of Aaron Roberts, a single father who loses his daughter to a state facility after he is arrested and tried on charges following an incident. While in the state home, an attorney learns of her plight and the story of her father, and decides to represent her in an innovative and surprising case against the State.
The “expert witnesses” that come to his defense including some of the nation’s leading thinkers in the fields of neuroscience, biochemistry, psychology, quantum physics, sociology, and consciousness theory, including Dr. Thomas Moore, Dr. Candace Pert, Debbie Ford, Dr. Joe Dispenza, Dr. Robert Jahn, Dr. Peter Senge, Brenda Dunne, and Dr. Michael Vandermark.

I’ll be joining Arizona friends for the premiere on September 9, 2011, and as the film moves around the country you might want to watch for it too.
Thanks for stopping by. Stay tuned…
